Events and Knap-ins
Here are some events where you can come see us!
August 4 - 6, 2017
You are invited to the 28th annual primitive-style knap-in here at The Schiele Museum!
The mission of The Schiele is to share the wonders of the natural world, including ancient cultures and skills, with our audience. Please take the time to share your knowledge and skills with museum visitors that stop by to see the event.
Friday, August 4th: Site open for early arrivals after 1PM for fellowship and free knapping.
Saturday, August 5th 10 AM: The Basic Tool Kit: James Parker will start off the event by discussing the importance of the basic stone tool kit, how to produce a variety of flake and blade tools, how to haft then, and how to use them!
11 AM – 5 PM: Free knapping.
6 PM - Trade Blanket - No money allowed! Come with your best trade goods-knapping tools, raw materials, finished pieces, leather goods, books, camping gear, food, this and that! Simple rules and protocol will be explained on site.
Sunday, August 6th
Free knapping until the Knap-in ends at 4 PM
Goods for Show and/or Sale - If you have primitive skills items you would like to display and/or have for purchase, please bring them! If you need a table to display your items, please let me know and we can try to accommodate you.
Lodging and Weather - There’s plenty of space to work, but not a lot of space to stay. We have floor space in the cabin for a few, and several areas to camp on site. All first-come, first-serve. There are several nice motels with reasonable rates nearby at I-85 Exit 20, New Hope Rd. We do not have enough covered space to accommodate a large number of knappers in the rain, so be prepared!
Registration and Questions - Registration is required in order for us to adequately prepare. To register, simply email your name, address, projected arrival time and overnight plans to Sara English at email@example.com or call 704-866-6910
